Instructed Eucharist on Sunday!

Communion

Often on a Cursillo weekend the priest will share an Instructed Eucharist. For some people this turns out to be one of the most helpful parts of the weekend. They come away with a deeper understanding of communion and a renewed gratitude for this wonderful sacrament.

In an Instructed Eucharist, the different parts of communion are explained--including historical and spiritual background. Where did it come from? Why do we do that? These questions and more will be answered during this journey through the liturgy, Sunday at both services.

Gratitude from Connie Otis

Connie Otis would like me to pass on her gratitude for the support of the Emmanuel community as she gives thanks for the life of her father, Ben Nevarez. Bless you Connie!

My Da
d went to be with the Lord on July 12th and I would like to let the Emmanuel community know how much I appreciate their prayers and concerns.  As usual, so many people expressed their well wishes and it is so comforting to know we are not alone in our time of need.

Today, my Dad would have celebrated his 95th Birthday!!  Between you and me, I think he wanted to celebrate this milestone up there with my Mom in Heaven.  I would suspect my Mom is fixing his favorite dinner, Chile Rellenos, and he's enjoying a nice cold beer.

My Dad so loved the Lord and I want to give thanks as we celebrate his wonderful life.  Our family and friends will deeply miss this kind and gentle man.

Praise God!

Josiah
Josiah Edwards of St. Margaret's Church, San Juan Capistrano, poses with Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan D. Williams and Bishop of Los Angeles Jon Bruno after helping to distribute communion to the altar party (including the Archbishop) during a Convention Eucharist.

Josiah is Fr. Paul's grandson (Fr. Robert's son). Josiah was born with a very severe form of spina bifida and the doctors advised Robert to take him home to die. The Emmanuel community, as well as many other people, began praying for Josiah and through an amazing set of circumstances he not only lived, but defied all the doctors' predictions about his mental and physical potential. Hallelujah for a God who can accomplish more than we can ask or imagine!

May the Holy Spirit guide your steps
and guard your heart!

Blessings,
Fr. Rob and Mo. Ly
