Next in our Lenten "Tools for Transformation Series"
week in our Sunday Lenten Series, Nancy Stock, former Presiding Judge
of the Orange County Superior Court will be leading us in the
practice of Focusing Prayer. Here is her invitation:
"Prayer is being loved at a deep, sweet level."
"God is closer to me than I am to myself."
Meister Eckhart, Dominican mystic.
saints decribe this prayer "as if someone else is holding me."
Understanding that we carry toxic and distracting emotions deep within
our bodies, and that these emotions, left undetected, can keep us from
an intimate relationship with God, focusing prayer is practiced, usually
between two facilitating partners, to allow for a safe and reflective
process of inner discovery. Begun with a "checking in" exercise to
quiet the mind, partners pray in a manner that facilitates a state of
mind that permits a long and loving look at what is real, even if that
reality is our own fears, doubts, insecurities and the biggest blockage
of all, unforgiveness. If you feel that your "issues are in your
tissues," perhaps this aproach to prayer is for you."
