7:30 pm Good Friday Observance
Part
of this service will be the veneration of the burial icon of Jesus.
Writing in the seventh century, St. John of Damascus stated: "No created
thing can be adored in place of the Creator. We do not worship icons,
for worship belongs to God along, but we venerate or show honor to
them." During the veneration of the burial icon of Jesus we pray and
show honor to Jesus for the gift of his death on the cross. In addition,
during this service we will hear the stories and reflections of some of
the people who were present at the crucifixion including Pilate's wife, the bride of Cana, the Centurion, and Jairus' daughter.
