GRACEfilled Expectancy
(Several of you asked that I include the GRACE acronymn from last Sunday's sermon in this week's Blurb. So here it is!)
This
is my adaptation of the Examen, a spiritual practice developed by St.
Ignatius. Ignatius of Loyola, who lived from 1491 to 1556, was a knight
from a Basque noble family who had a conversion experience during his
recovery from a battle wound, and eventually became a priest. The Examen
helps us to develop the ability to notice the presence of Christ during
our day, and to live in expectancy of his appearing in our future. I've
used the acronym of GRACE to help us remember the steps. I usually
practice this in the evening before retiring.
G-gratitude (What were the blessings of the day?)
R-review the day (See what was forgotten or hidden.)
A-acknowledge what didn't work (Shows need for God.)
C-call on God (Asking for his mercy and loving assistance)
E-engage the future (Pray for the next day.)
Try it out during this Advent season and see if it helps prepare your heart for more of Jesus!

Photo of the Week
UP ON THE ROOF! Great
photo from Cathy Corr that celebrates the uplifting experience that
she, Jeff McDaneld, and a merry band of BLESS day participants had
beautifying and maintaining Emmanuel. Thanks be to God! |
