 Dear Gene

May your Fourth of July week be filled with gratitude for all our freedoms--both national and religious. For freedom Christ has set us free!

With love in Jesus,

Thanksgiving for the life of

Bob Johnson

Bob Johnson

On Saturday, July 14th, at 2pm, we will have a memorial service for Bob Johnson at Emmanuel.  As some of you know, this past month his health had declined rapidly and severely. Fr. Rob prayed with him at St. Jude's the day before he died. He opened his eyes and smiled but was not able to speak. He was close to death at that point and the prayer was that Jesus would take him by the hand and bring him home in his perfect timing. I know the Lord honored that prayer and that Bob is now having some kind of wild discussion and potluck lunch with the Emmanuel saints who have gone on before.

Here are some reflections from Mo Lyn:

Two things will always stick out in my memory. Easter Sunday he pinned the cross shaped bookmark we had placed in the bulletins to his shirt right above the name tag he always wore. And so when I looked at him I read Bob Johnson, Alive in Christ. Yup!, the other is that as declining as he was he insisted on coming to church even tho he could barely shuffle through the door. On the way out 4 Emmanuel men walked him out, one in front of him, one behind and one on each side. And I thought to myself "there goes a living illustration of Christ is With Me" (Christ before me Christ behind, at my left and at my right.) I will miss this beloved saint of God!

May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
