it or not, Lent is a comin'! May the Holy Spirit guide our Lenten
journey in such a way that we emerge with a deeper awareness of God's
love for us, and a deeper ability to express that love to others!
With gratitude for you,
Fr. Rob & Mo. Lyn
One of the traditions of the church is Shrove Tuesday,
the celebration on the evening before Lent begins when all the
"goodies" are eaten in preparation for a season of fasting and
pentitence. Often this is in the form of a "Pancake Supper" (which
includes lots of butter and syrup!) This is exactly what we will do next Tuesday, February 12 at 6pm.
Emmanuel add-on is that we will also have a Mardi Gras style musical
procession outside to bury a "Hallelujah" sign. This is to remind us
that during Lent our hallelujahs are dormant as we join Jesus in the
wilderness to spend our 40 days and 40 nights deepening our spiritual
lives and integrating our ephiphanies.
Then, on Ash Wednesday
(which is February 13 this year) we will meet at 7am, 10am, or 7:30pm
to receive the imposition of ashes (in remembrance of our mortality) and
receive communion (in remembrance of the gift of eternal life). It is a
beautiful and powerful way to enter into our time of Lent together.
Via (Multi) Media
Viewing Spirituality through the Lens of the Arts
Anglicans, we celebrate "Via Media" which means "the middle way". As
Emmanuelites we will be celebrating "Via (Multi) Media" which means
we'll have a great time hearing about the spiritual adventures of
several members of our congregation mediated through books, film, and
Here is the schedule:
Feb 14 "The Five Love Languages" - Kathy Palmer
Feb 21 Psychology of Spirituality - Fr. Paul
Feb 28 TED talk on Gratitude - Mo. Lyn
Mar 7 "Proof of Heaven" - Paul Dobies
Mar 14 "I AM" DVD - Fr. Rob & Mo. Lyn
Mar 21 Music that Made a Difference - Jen Wagner
of these sessions will be on Thursdays during Lent from 7:30 until
8:30pm. We will begin with a time of worship, hear a half hour
presentation on the topic, and then have some
time to share our own experiences and thoughts. This will be an awesome
way to grow spiritually, develop friendships, and find more about love,
gratitude, and transformation.
