Nancy Shively and her team of helpers did a wonderful job of gifting the children of our area with Emmanuel Summer Camp. Not only did we have children from the church and preschool, but half of the group was from the surrounding neighborhood. See a collage of the festivities in this issue.

With love in Jesus,
Fr. Rob & Mo. Lyn

  • Ready for some adventure with Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn?  Come to Emmanuel Movie Night, Friday, June 23 at 6:30PM for the 1951 classic "The African Queen"! Set during World War I, the movie was filmed almost entirely in the Congo by directing legend John Huston.  Oscar-winner Bogart stars as no-nonsense riverboat captain Charlie Allnut, who is taking Hepburn's prim spinster Rose Sayer to safety after her missionary brother dies from an encounter with German troops. Wonderfully written and perfectly played, Charlie and Rose battle each other, the river and the jungle, and the Germans in order to survive. Hepburn and Bogart bring a tangible sense of warmth and affection as their characters' feelings grow for each other, Bogie displaying his rarely seen but keen sense for comedy.  As always, admission and refreshments are free, and the company is stellar!

Photo of the Week

This is a photo from a recent issue of the St. Jude Memorial Foundation Donor Newsletter. It celebrated the Joy Jones Scholarship program which supports the pursuit and advancement of nursing education. Ted set this up as a Christmas present to Joy. Since Joy was a nurse herself, what an appropriate gift and tribute! How beautiful to see the variety of ways in which Emmanuelites are helping to serve our community!
