 Dear Gene
A lot going on this week! All sorts of opportunities to be fed--both spiritually and physically. As someone in the parish recently said, "The Holy Spirit is on the move!" Amen and thanks be to God!

P.S. Remember we have a single service this Sunday at 9am!

 Blessing of the Peace Pole

This Sunday

Peace Pole

This month Emmanuel is going to become a part of an international movement called the Peace Pole Project. A peace pole is a hand-crafted monument that displays the message and prayer "May Peace Prevail on Earth". Our pole will have this message on it in eight languages; English, Arabic, French, German, Hebrew, Irish, Korean, and Spanish.

There are tens of thousands of peace poles in over 180 countries all over the world, dedicated as monuments to peace. They serve as constant reminders for us to visualize and pray for world peace. Ours will be "planted" between the labyrinth and the community garden so that whether we are working in the soil or walking the labyrinth we will have this beautiful reminder to pray for peace.

The blessing of our peace pole will be held after the single service at 9:00 am on October 30th. (This is our usual 5th Sunday service). After the service we will process back to the garden for the blessing and then adjourn for a wonderful time of fellowship and fun at the BBQ. Come join us!!

 Extra! Extra!

Read All About It!

Please bring a vegetable dish to share at the BBQ on Sunday.  Although you may not have anything fresh growing in your garden right now, please consider creating a side dish that highlights fresh, natural ingredients you have grown, plan to grow, sampled, or would like others to try.  Call Janis Holmberg at 714-257-0123 and let her know what you are bringing.

Kicking off the maintenance fundraising with a matching grant - In order to raise money quickly for the maintenance projects, 3 families are offering a matching grant. For any money donated between now and Sunday, November 6, an equal amount will be matched up to a total of $5000.  So bring your checks and give them to Fred Collin this Sunday or next, and watch the thermometer rise!

Quiet Day, this Saturday (October 29), from 9am to 3pm - Our Quiet day topic, "Unless you become like children", will consider what it means to approach a contemplative life "with childlike simplicity" as author James Finley suggests. We will look at Scripture, and spend some time in playful activity between our twenty minute meditation periods. Being contemplative can be joyful and even fun!
