July 12. 2012
 Dear Gene

We have had several Emmanuel friends who have experienced what my Dad used to call "graduation" day. I give thanks for the life of Bob Johnson, Kathy Fowler, Ken Merrell, and Christine Garcia's brother Mike. May they go from glory to glory in God's kingdom.
With love in Jesus,
Fr. Rob

Bob Johnson's Memorial on Saturday

Bob Johnson

The service will be at 2pm at Emmanuel this coming Saturday (July 14). This week I've included the background that Bob's family has created:

Robert Alan Johnson

Long time La Canada resident, Robert (Bob) Alan Johnson, 89, died on June 21, 2012 in Fullerton, CA.  Bob was born on April 4, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Herman and Hazel (Woodruff)  Johnson.  He had two brothers, Curt and Clyde, and one sister, Dorothy who all preceded him in death.  He graduated from Central High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1940 and obtained a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nebraska in 1947.  During World War II he served in the army.  In July, 1948 he married the love of his life, Helen Colberg.  They were married for 44 years until her death in 1992.  Bob worked as a chemical engineer until he retired in 1993.

Bob was very active in the La Canada Presbyterian Church teaching junior high Sunday School, serving as an elder, deacon, and in the Stephen Ministry outreach program.  In 2005, he moved to Fullerton to live with his daughter and family.  He was active at the Senior Center playing table tennis and bridge.  He joined two churches, Episcopal and Lutheran (where he continued in being a part of Stephen Ministry).  Bob always loved to travel.  He and Helen traveled to all 50 states and 6 continents.

Bob is survived by his sons, Brian (Lynette) Johnson of Santa Barbara, CA and Dave (Paula) Johnson of Renton, WA and  daughter, Cindy (Will) Smalley of Fullerton, CA and their five children, Robert (Jane)  (daughter, Emilie), Laura, Daniel, Galina, and Michael.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 1145 W. Valencia Mesa, Fullerton, CA  92833.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of your choice.  Two of Bob's favorite charities were Stephen Ministry and Campus Crusade for Christ.  He also sponsored his granddaughter, Laura, who is working at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, MO and Craig and Shelley Rice who are working with the Latin America Mission in Costa Rica.
