Via (Multi) Media

Viewing Spirituality through the Lens of the Arts

As Anglicans, we celebrate "Via Media" which means "the middle way". As Emmanuelites we will be celebrating "Via (Multi) Media" which means we'll have a great time hearing about the spiritual adventures of several members of our congregation mediated through books, film, and music.

Paul Dobies

This week Paul Dobies will reflect on the book "Proof of Heaven" by neurosurgeon Eben Alexander, as well as share what he calls his own "near life experience". (I know that a few of you have also had near death experiences, and we would love to hear them, as well!) There is an infinite world of awe and wonder out there, but our brain filters out much of it. Come hear what happens when the veil is drawn aside!

Here is the remaining schedule:

Mar 7    "Proof of Heaven" - Paul Dobies

Mar 14   "I AM" DVD - Fr. Rob & Mo. Lyn
Mar 21   Music that Made a Difference - Jen Wagner

Each of these sessions will be on Thursdays during Lent from 7:30 until 8:30pm. We will begin with a time of worship, hear a half hour presentation on the topic, and then have some time to share our own experiences and thoughts. This will be an awesome way to grow spiritually, develop friendships, and find more about love, gratitude, and transformation.

Through the eyes of the people of Emmanuel

From Mary Doman:

As you know, I ended up in the ER on New Year's Eve and was diagnosed with right lower lobe pneumonia.

Apparently, Giselle wanted to send me a card during that time, but wasn't able to do so. Well, now that I'm back (and getting my energy back!), she decided to send me a card because I'm back.

It's one of those pretty blank cards, with a picture of a lit candle and some fall/winter type foliage on the front. The envelope was sealed with a "Jasmine" sticker (Jasmine from "Aladdin"), and has a "Belle" sticker (from "Beauty and the Beast") on the inside blank part.

Here's the message, which is a perfect recovery message, and a "remember to do this every day" message:

Dear Mary,

Every day.

From Giselle

From Barbara Babcock:

While reflecting on Fr. Rob's sermon Sunday before last, the word hope came to my mind.  To me finding the joy in every day life is hope.  An acronym for hope that came to mind is H-have faith in God, O-open your heart, P-praise God and E-enjoy the effect.  I can live by this and enjoy the day!  I hope you will too!

Thank you, Mary and Barbara, for sharing these helpful reminders!

Garden of Delight

Here is a photo taken by Jen Wagner of her class at the Emmanuel Garden. This past week Fr. Rob, Gordon and Lorra Dickinson also shared the garden with Bishop Bruno and a select group from around the Diocese. Looks like our creative cultivating is a cross-generational delight!
