It is with sadness that I share with you that George Hayward went
to be with the Lord late last night, after suffering a massive heart
attack earlier in the week.
George had told me some time ago that he had lived much longer
than he had expected, and that the Lord had given him a new lease on
life several times in his wild and woolly past for which he was
eternally grateful. He frequently shared with me how blessed he felt for
his family, his faith, and his home at Emmanuel. He lived a full,
expansive, and wholehearted life in this world, and I am sure is already
planning some heavenly festivity to "help build fellowship"!
I give thanks for all the energy and enthusiasm George put into
everything he did. Whether it was putting on a mouth-watering BBQ,
teaching a cooking class at VBS, coming up with an Emmanuel publicity
stunt, or making an announcement in church, he did it with gusto. I also
admire his courage and determination in coming to church during his
cancer treatment, and staying as long as he could before retiring to a
couch in Havermale Hall. Being in church and worshiping the Lord was
that important to him.
We will miss his energetic and engaging presence. As soon as a time
is chosen for his memorial service we will let everyone know.
May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
