Personal and Family Pilgrimages to Christmas

December 8 at 6pm - Pilgrimage - Buen Camino!

Come join Fr. Rob, Ken and Kathy Peters, and Dave and Karen Maurer as they tell stories and show pictures of their pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. "The Way of St. James" is a pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in Northwestern Spain, where the remains of the apostle St. James are buried. Food and drink will be provided.

December 15 at 6pm  - Las Posadas

Posada is Spanish for lodging or accomodation. It is said in plural because traditionally Las Posadas is held for nine days in Spain, Mexico, and many South and Central American countries. The procession represents Mary and Joseph's search for a place for the Christ child to be born. It may have been started in 1538 by St. Ignatius of Loyola or Friar Pedro de Gant. It has been a tradition in Mexico for 400 years.

Here at Emmanuel Las Posadas is celebrated with "inns" located in the various rooms around the church campus. We travel from place to place by candlelight singing songs accompanied by Fr. Rob on guitar. There are "grumpy" innkeepers found at each "inn" refusing us entrance. At the final "inn" we are welcomed by more hospitable innkeepers who invite us in for a feast of tamales and other goodies and a pinata for the kids. Come join us for this inspiring and enjoyable evening starting at 6 pm on Sunday December 15th. For many of us Las Posadas has become a regular part of our yearly Christmas tradition.

December 22 at 4pm - Greening of the Church

A long-time Anglican tradition is an event called the greening of the church. This is the time when we set up the Christmas tree, and the nativity set as well. This is all done to the sound of Christmas carols and lots of laughter. Come join the fun and be amazed at how beautiful our sanctuary looks when we are done! Afterwards we adjourn to Havermale Hall for a pot luck soup supper.

Thanksgiving for Emmanuel Saints!

Thanksgiving Ministry 2

Thanksgiving Ministry1
On Thanksgiving morning a group of Emmanuelites went to a senior building in Long Beach to deliver a holiday meal and good wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving to homebound seniors. One group had delivered to a Farsi speaking woman. Marti Edmonds speaks Farsi and wanted to greet her in her native language. The woman lives in one of the upper floors of this 17 story senior building. Marti's sons wanted to go too. Joe thought the boys could get to the floor before their mother could by elevator. He challenged his brothers to join the race. Approaching the 11th floor landing, the boys noticed a woman on the floor. She seemed hurt and disoriented. They brought Marti and Maria Cover to the woman. Marti and Maria provided support to the woman and kept her from getting up and falling again and reinjuring herself until the paramedics arrived. The woman spoke what was presumed to be Russian and had used too many medication patches which had made her unstable. Good work Team Emmanuel!!!
