| Dear , |
of my favorite hymns as a kid was "Come, Ye Thankful People, Come"
(which we happen to be singing this Sunday--thank you, Jennifer!) During
this season of Thanksgiving, we wanted to take a moment to say how
thankful we are for all of you, and for the beautiful, faithful ways in
which you seek to grow in Christ and share the love of God with others.
With gratitude for you,
Fr. Rob and Mo. Lyn
Covenant Players Appearing at Emmanuel
We will be blessed to have The Covenant Players appear at Emmanuel during our fifth Sunday single service on November 30th.
Players is an interdenominational drama ministry based in Oxnard and
founded in 1963. The founder of the organization, Chuck Tanner, was
filled with a profound vision of the power of drama to communicate the
gospel. Chuck wrote over 3000 plays. He died in 2006 but his legacy
lives on through the members of the group. For a number of years, our
own Scott Buehler was a part of this ministry. To this day he still
supports Covenant Players in many ways. This weekend he is housing the
actors who will be with us on Sunday.
A Note About Stewardship
we come to the close of stewardship month, we are ever so grateful for
the willingness of a number of our parishioners to share about the
reasons they give to support the ministry of Emmanuel. A great big thank
you to Cheri Collin, Michael Bahinyoza, Bernice Lomheim, and Ron Suich
for their touching and very helpful sharing.
a "tag-team" sermon last Sunday, Fr. Rob and Mo. Lyn spoke of their
commitment to the tithe for their own personal stewardship. If you are
considering the practice of tithing in your own life, the following
chart may be helpful. If you were tithing (donating 10% of your income)
here's what your offering would look like every week. The first column
is "yearly income" and the second is "weekly offering."
May the Holy Spirit continue to guide us as we prayerfully make our stewardship decisions.
FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: Join
us at Emmanuel's monthly 'night at the movies' on Friday, November 21,
6:30PM, for four-time Oscar winner "Friendly Persuasion"! Set in
1862, the movie tells the story of a loving Quaker family, the
Birdwells, dealing with the heart of family, faith and pacifism as the
Civil War inches ever closer. It's warm, charming and beautifully made!
As always, admission is free, refreshments are available, and the
company is wonderful!
CHRISTMAS CHOIR BEGINS NOVEMBER 23. Contact
Georgia Atkins if you would like to sing in the choir. Her number is
562-889-1469 and her email is firstname.lastname@example.org
Photo of the Week
is what "abbondanza" looks like! A little seed from a squash plant
found its way into the compost heap, and look what happened! Definitely a
lesson on the abundance of God!
