Holy Week Services
Holy Week

Holy Week is such a profound time in the life of a Christian. From the Hosannas of Palm Sunday, through the cross of Good Friday, to the resurrection joy of Easter, when we walk with Jesus we discover the secret of this season: the way of the cross is the way to LIFE!

Come join us for this transformative journey.

Maundy Thursday will be observed on Thursday, April 2. We will begin with an agape meal at 7pm (which includes a Mediterranean fare similar to what the disciples might have eaten with Jesus. Then the Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7:30pm where we will join with Jesus and the disciples in footwashing and communion. [Note: "Maundy" comes from the Latin word "mandate"  for the new mandate or command Jesus gave to "love one another as I have loved you".]

Good Friday services will be held on Friday, April 3 at 12-3pm and then later at 7:30pm. The 12-3pm service will be the stations of the cross, with worship music, and reflections by the clergy as we observe the three hours in which Jesus hung on the cross. The evening service will be an open time of participation available from 7:30pm until 9:30pm where you can come and choose any or all of the stations you would like to visit for self-directed reflection and adoration of Christ.

Easter Vigil is a time of devotion anticipating the dawn of the resurrection and acknowledging the light of Christ which is able to overcome any darkness. This service will be held at 7:30pm on Saturday, April 4. During this service we have a procession of the pascal candle, a candlelight reflection on the promises of scripture, renewal of baptism, celebration of the resurrection of Jesus, and communion. One of the most beautiful services of the church year!

Easter Services will be held at our usual Sunday times of 8:15am and 10am on April 5. Both services will have choir and communion. Bring your bells for the gloria (an ancient tradition), flowers for the cross, and eggs for the hunt (a dozen plastic eggs with non-melting goodies would be great!) After the service Patty and Jeff McDaneld will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on the front lawn for the kids.

Together we will deepen our devotion to Christ and make room for the Holy Spirit to empower our lives for service as we remember the way of the cross and the power of the resurrection!

The Wisdom and Will
to Conserve
How Living "Green" Can Increase Your Health, Your Happiness, and Help Save our Home

In the modern age, it's easy to feel disconnected with everything around us.  When it comes to the environment, the issues are overwhelming, politically charged, and seemingly out of our hands.  However, it doesn't have to be that way.

This April, Emmanuel will be hosting a three class series titled The Wisdom and Will to Conserve: How Living 'Green' Can Increase Your Health, Your Happiness, and Help Save Our Home.  Each class will focus on a separate area (food, personal products, and home care) where the lives of you and your family are intimately tied to the state of our environment today, and how small, simple changes can make a powerful difference.  Taking care of the environment shouldn't be a political battleground- it's simply a matter of taking care of our home.  Please join us to learn how to live an eco-conscious life, and discover for yourselves the empowering benefits which occur when we reconnect to the world outside. Classes will be led by our own Kitty and Christopher Robinson. They are passionate about this topic and know more about our environment than just about anyone we've met! We will be meeting on Thursday April 16, 23, and 30th in the SHACK Room at 7:30 pm. Come and be amazed and learn something new!!!

Emmanuel News Flash

  • There will be an assistants' training for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (our children's program) on Sunday, April 12th at noon.  Anyone is welcome.  We'll go over the history of the program both here at Emmanuel and internationally, look at the role of the adult in the Atrium and do some hands on work with some of the materials.  It will last 2-3 hours so participants should bring a lunch. Come find out if this is something you might like to do!

  • There will be a Faces of Fullerton celebration near the Fullerton Museum on April 11 from 10am until 2pm. We will have a combined Emmanuel Preschool/Emmanuel Church booth at this event. There are also openings for people who would like to help out with the event itself. What a great opportunity to let people know about Emmanuel! Contact Nancy Shively at 714-738-1541 if you are interested!

  • Have you noticed the beautification that has been going on at Emmanuel? Be sure to take a look at the succulent gardens that are emerging--currently in the entrance driveway triangle and the flower bed near the office door. A big thanks to Lorra and Gordon Dickinson, and Charley and Karen Julian, our chief horticulturalists.
