April 30, 2015
 Dear   ,
Today I am feeling especially grateful that we are Easter people. We have the joy of celebrating Easter, not just one day of the year, but 50! (Well really 365 days, but liturgically 50!) From Easter to Pentecost, the paschal candle lights our way and reminds us of this. With all the sadness and violence in our world, it is so important that we spend some time every day looking for signs of resurrected life. Make sure you look today. Where do you see signs of the life and light of Christ around you? In nature? In another person? In a situation for which you had no hope? Take the time to be aware and notice. Alleluia! Christ is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!

With love in Christ,
Fr. Rob & Mo. Lyn+

Good-bye to a Dear Friend
in Angel Chapel
Dean Libner during an introspective moment in the Angel Chapel

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that our dear friend Dean Libner has died unexpectedly after undergoing knee surgery. Dean was 79 years old. He and his wife Fran were longtime members of the Emmanuel community and had been living for a number of years in Green Valley, Arizona. At Emmanuel, Dean could always be seen, (usually with a pair of his brightly colored suspenders on), sweeping the patio before the first service. He purchased a long-handled squeegee so that he could sweep away the puddles when it rained. Once when Bishop Chet Talton visited the parish, he asked me after the service..       " Who was that man sweeping the patio before the service?" When I told him, he replied, "I have never had a warmer greeting at any church I have visited!" That was Dean...a warm smile and an even warmer welcome. We will miss you! Thank you for all that you shared with us. As one person said of him on Facebook, "I am sure God has welcomed him into heaven saying  'Well done good and faithful servant.'"

The memorial service for Dean will be held at
Desert Hills Lutheran Church in Green Valley,
on May 14th at 1:00 pm.
Cards may be sent to

There are some artists in our midst! This small arbor was designed and created by Howard Minkley and his crew. It leads from the community garden into the St Francis garden.

These beautiful benches were designed and created by Robert Jahncke for the St Francis garden. We are so blessed to have such gifted people in our congregation!
