It has been a difficult and tearful week at Emmanuel with the deaths of our beloved friend Dan Kent and the sudden and unexpected death of Kathy Peters' father. These events serve as a reminder of our own mortality and the importance of holding our loved ones close every day and remembering to let them know how very much we love them. Please know that I love and treasure each and every one of you!

It is So Hard to Say Goodbye

Early Sunday morning our dear friend Dan Kent entered into the greater glory of God's kingdom. Dan has been a faithful member of Emmanuel for decades and loved this church and its people with all his heart. For many years Dan was our BBQ king. He was a foodie to the max and spearheaded Emmanuel's annual BBQ and square dance. He also loved to sing and took part in the Easter and Christmas choirs with great enthusiasm. Over the years, Dan served in many other capacities for the Emmanuel community. But the thing that he is remembered most for is his ministry of hugs. I can't count the number of  people in the last few days who have remembered with great tenderness, the depth of love they experienced when Dan hugged them. He was a kind, gracious, and loving man and we will miss him very much.
Dan's memorial service will be held at Emmanuel, on All Saints Day, Sunday, November 1st, at 7:00 pm.

Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord;
And let light perpetual shine upon him.

Million Meals Ingathering This Sunday

Don't forget to bring your coins and checks in for the Million Meals Ingathering this Sunday. New containers will be available that day. The money gathered in goes to provide food for an assortment of non-profit agencies in the area who provide meals for the poor and the homeless. The sign in the picture below, which hangs in the sanctuary, shows how many meals Emmanuel has provided to date. Questions? See Kathy Palmer.

Movie Night

When it's movie night, at Emmanuel, watcha gonna see?  'Ghostbusters', of course!  Join us on Friday, October 23 at 6:30PM, for a spook-tacular evening!  Watch Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis do tongue-in-cheek battle with the supernatural, in order to save Sigourney Weaver, New York City and the world!  The 1984 hit comedy deftly walks a fine line--taking it all seriously enough to be scary, then poking fun at it in the most creative ways possible.   As always, admission and refreshments are free, and the company is superb!
