Valentine's day is on the way! I wonder how many people realize that the origin of the day was in the celebration of St. Valentine, a third century Christian who was imprisoned for his faith. One of my favorite legends about him is that during his imprisonment, St. Valentine healed the daughter of his jailer and before his execution wrote the little girl a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell.

May the unconditional love of God for us and all humanity warm our hearts and empower our care for others as we approach this Valentine's Day!

With love in Jesus,

  • GOT A TRUCK? For many years we supported Epiphany East LA with their thrift store ministry. When they closed that ministry we redirected our contributions to Zion Lutheran Thrift Store. If we are going to continue to do this ministry, we need someone who is willing to pick up the contributions from Emmanuel once a month and bring them to the Lutheran Thrift Store. Here's the info:

    Zion Lutheran Thrift Store
    1109 E. Commonwealth Ave.
    Fullerton, CA 92831
    Ph. #714-879-1147
Drop offs are on Friday and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm
If we are going to drop off a large amount of items, it would be helpful if we notified them ahead of time.
    Contact person: Michele
If you can help with this, please contact Pam Notti, Fr. Rob or Mo Lyn. Thanks!
By an interesting work of the Holy Sp irit through Fr. Barrett Van Buren and one of our Emmanuel neighbors, Dr. Fasil Quazi, Emmanuel will be hosting a presentation by a group of mental health professionals to provide support for those who have been harrassed or who  would like to help those who have been hurt. Karen and Charley Julien are the contact people for this class which will be held in Edwa rds Hall on Saturday February 25th at 2pm.  All are welcome. For a flyer you can share  click here
  • GARDEN NEWS. We are hoping (praying) for a break in the rain for this weekend - won't you join us. We would like to get all of the vines and roses pruned for the year this weekend. We will start on Friday morning around 9:00 and work until around noon. If we are not finished we will start again on Saturday morning at 9:00. Even if we have finished pruning vines & roses there are several other projects we could use your help with on Saturday morning. We have numerous jobs that need to be done in the Children's garden so that the kids can plant as soon as it stops raining and warms up.
Don't forget to come by the garden Plant Sale on Saturday, February 18 for your vegetable plants. There will be a number of other interesting items too
