June 29, 2017

This week, as we approach Independence Day, we give thanks for our freedoms--both national and spiritual. We especially give thanks for our freedom to worship (since many people don't have that blessing) and for the opportunity to gather every Sunday with one another to exercise that freedom!

With love in Jesus,
Fr. Rob & Mo. Lyn

Congratulations to Our Graduates

Congratulations to all our Emmanuel graduates! Sirena Ortiz and Andrew Edmonds graduated from High School, and Deborah Cantwell graduated with a Masters degree. Let us know about any other Emmanuelites who have graduated (along with any photos you might have) and we will feature them in an upcoming issue of the Emmanuel Blurb!

  • Emma Kremer and her Gold Award Project:
Hi Church Family! You might have noticed that the planters in the parking lot have been refurbished! I have undertaken this project to fulfill my Girl Scout Gold Award. It has been an interesting and fun process - and one which actually began last summer when I first presented my idea at Vacation Bible School. At first, I thought I would plant succulents, but after more research and consideration, I decided to go with native, drought-resistant perennials, including lantana and Mexican sage. They are pretty and hardy, and they should grow to a nice size over the next couple of years.   The beds have been mulched for aesthetic reasons, but also to prevent the growth of weeds and to retain water for the plants. Some of the beds have even been equipped with a drip irrigation system, which will save even more water.  I added large decorative river rocks to a few of the planters, and if anyone would like to donate additional rocks (perhaps from your own garden!), please feel free to place them as you see fit! (You could also call me at 714-449-0334, and I will pick them up!)  I would like to extend my thanks to Father Rob and Mother Lyn for allowing me to complete my Gold Award project at Emmanuel. I would also like to thank Emmanuel's fabulous master gardener, Lorra Almstedt, for all of her guidance, as well as our wonderful Junior Warden, Howard Minkley, for his wisdom regarding the sprinklers. Thanks as well to Kathy Eppick and Carolyn Cardamis for their help weeding and preparing the soil! Bye! - Emma Kremer

The Man Behind the Photos
We are so blessed to have Gene Cantwell in our midst to help chronicle our Emmanuel adventures. Here, Gene is setting up his camera to capture the gang who hung out together in Santa Barbara for our recent Silent Retreat. Thanks be to God for all our "behind the scenes" people!
