In the sermon this week, we focused on Jesus' call to Philip to "Follow Me". But, we pondered, "How does Jesus continue to call us to follow once we are on that path in life?" It was proposed that one of the ways is through "holy nudges." Holy nudges are those moments when you feel a strong urge to make a phone call, send a card, knock on a door, pay for someone else's meal, say a prayer. They are also those moments when a topic or theme keeps coming up in the mind. A holy nudge may come as a sudden insight. Or it may come in the form of renewed energy, and a sudden passion and drive about something, followed by a pull to follow through. It may come during a time of prayer, worship, or reading scripture. But it could just as easily come at a very ordinary time of making your bed or doing the dishes. Nudges are the way we are coaxed by the Holy Spirit to follow Jesus.

So may we all have the willingness to hear the nudges, the attentiveness to our thoughts, emotions, bodies, the people around us, and the circumstances of our lives, to hear the nudges, and the responsiveness, the decision to respond to the nudge and to act upon it.
May we say with all our hearts, Jesus I will follow you wherever you go.

With much love,
Mo. Lyn+

Bishop Diane is Coming

Bishop Diane Jardine Bruce will be making a visit to Emmanuel on February 4th. We will be having a single service at 9:00 am, followed by coffee hour. Part of the celebration will be the baptism of the Marquez family's baby Kiara! Then the bishop will be meeting with members of the parish leadership. Please mark your calendars now. We want to have a nice turn-out to bless Kiara in her life in Christ and to hear what Bishop Diane might share with us about our transition!

Get Ready for Movie Night!

Care for a night at the opera and duck soup?  Then join us Friday, January 26, 6:30PM, when Emmanuel Movie Night presents the legendary Marx Brothers in two classic short comedies..."A Night at the Opera" and "Duck Soup"!  The first is grand comedy, crammed with wall-to-wall gags, one-liners and musical riffs.  The second is political satire, as entertaining and relevant today as it was when it was first released.  As always, admission and refreshments are free, and the company is stellar!
