Our focus Sunday, the first Sunday in Lent, was on Jesus' words in the gospel for the day..."The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news." We recalled together the words in the service of baptism when everyone is asked "Will you persevere in resisting evil and whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord?" Notice that it doesn't say, if  you fall into sin, repent. It says whenever you fall into sin, repent. We are human. We make mistakes. There are no perfect people. As
Romans 3: 23 says, "We all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." We pondered together the misconceptions about what it means to repent. It is not about feeling disgrace and shame and really, really sorry or lower than a worm. It means to turn around. And then I shared my story of falling into quicksand and the lessons I learned about sin from that experience. We all committed to a Lent in which we do an honest assessment of our interior landscape and turn around whenever we discover we have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

With much love,

Mo. Lyn+

Movie Night

Join us tomorrow night, February 23rd at 6:30 pm,
when  Emmanuel Movie Night presents Jackie Gleason in the funny, poignant "Gigot" a favorite of our own
movie lover Warren Knape!
Gleason gives a heart-wrenching performance as a kind, mute janitor who befriends a little girl in the slums of Paris. Written, scored and acted by Gleason himself as a tribute to his idol, Charlie Chaplin, the film also features the directorial skill of Gene Kelly.  As always, admission and snacks are free, and the company is stellar!
