I am so grateful that the God Is With Us chapter of the Daughters of the King has been resurrected. (We are Easter people!) In the loving care of Deborah Cantwell, we have begun to meet once a month in the SHACK room after the 10:00 am service. We begin each meeting with a candle lighting service, each woman lighting her own candle from the Christ light. Then each person writes a prayer request down on a piece of paper and passes it to the person next to them who commits to pray for the coming month. We are refreshing our minds about the ministry of the order by reading the official National Study Guide. In this time of transition in the life of Emmanuel, I don't think it is a coincidence that the Spirit has stirred up the prayer ministry of the Daughters of the King in our midst. Below I have posted a picture of the DOK cross which all members receive. It was officially adopted on November 5, 1891. (The DOK had a long and rich history).

It's shape is a modified Greek Fleury cross and the Latin words mean With Heart, Mind, and Spirit Uphold and Bear the Cross. The letters at the base, FHS, mean For His Sake.

In gratitude,

Mo. Lyn+

Helping those affected by disastrous wildfire

The bishops and diocesan disaster response task force invite you and your congregations to share in helping those who have suffered losses in the raging brush fires. Please consider including the following information during announcement time in your Sunday services.

It is easy and efficient to donate online to the Diocesan Fire and Mudslide Fund via the website www.edlagives.org.   Also, checks made payable to the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles may be mailed to 840 Echo Park Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90026. Disbursement of funds is guided by prioritizing greatest need among low-income and otherwise vulnerable recipients who might not otherwise find assistance.

Also, local congregations may have in attendance at Sunday services individuals and families who have been displaced and suffered losses amid the fire disaster. Help may be needed in securing temporary housing and other services. Especially sensitive, effective and professional pastoral and practical care is encouraged in these contexts.

Additional information about the diocesan disaster response task force may be requested from the Very Rev. Canon Michael Bamberger, chair, and rector of Church of the Ascension, Sierra Madre, email:mab@ascension-sierramadre.com.

Thank you for your consideration and care as together we work in serving Christ by feeding hungry hearts.

Change of Date for Movie Night!
Because of Thanksgiving, Movie Night has been changed to November 30th at 6:30 pm in the SHACK room.

Based on the life of Bart Millard, the lead singer of the Christian group MercyMe, this movie is a griping reminder of the power of forgiveness. It illustrates that no one is ever too far from God's love. Come join us!

Photos of the Week

Emmanuel alumni Dave Dutra and Bill Robinson and their wives Julie and Nancy, met up in church at St Mark's Episcopal Church in Mesa, Arizona. Julie and Dave, who are there for the winter as campground hosts, surprised Bill and Nancy who live there. They will be attending church together while Dutras are there. (You never know when or where you might bump into other Emmanuelites!) Bill has taken Million Meals to Mesa supported by his Crazy Chili Farm in which he grows heritage chilis, corn, and squashes. The proceeds go to Million Meals. Here he is pointing out his display about the program.
