Coffee Hour

We sing, we pray, we learn, and we participate in the breaking of the bread where we remember who we are (God’s) and what we are called to do (be God’s face, hands, and feet in the world), but it’s after church where the good stuff happens. After church we share some food, make new friends, and catch up with old friends. This is where friendships are formed, community is built and love is felt.

Please join us after the service on the patio or in the parish hall (depending on the weather) for coffee and snacks.

Worship Style.

On Sunday, Holy Eucharist is celebrated at 8:15am and 10:00am. Both services follow the traditional form of Episcopal liturgy with a casual and contemporary feel, yet each service has its own distinctive rhythm in how the service unfolds. And since the Holy Spirit is alive and well and living among us at Emmanuel you might laugh, cry, pray silently, be prayed for, sing loud, clap your hands, dance in the aisles, sit quietly, all of the above or something completely different. That’s between you and the Holy Spirit.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is the meeting place of two mysteries: the mystery of God and the mystery of the child, in which, the objective of the program is to provide an environment where the child may fall in love with Jesus and where the relationship between the child and Christ may be nurtured.

The sacred space the children and teacher meet in is called an atrium. It is a sacred space, quiet, focused, where children are drawn into worship, where Christ is encountered through Word and action. Everything is child size, designed with simplicity, beauty, and dignity. In our atrium, the children will make bouquets of flowers, polish brass candlesticks, fold the fair linen. They will set the tiny altar for the Eucharist, and learn the special name for each item at this very special feast. They will hold tiny mustard seeds in their hands.

More like a children's chapel than ruckus Sunday School classroom, there is the quieter time where soft voices are used for the time of prayer and meditative work, then group time, we pray and sing and introduce new materials. The curriculum includes presentations on liturgy, sacraments, and scripture.

Catechesis meets beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays for children aged 3 to 10 during the time that parishioners are celebrating the Liturgy of the Word in church. They are then brought into the church to share in Eucharist with the whole community.

Our Community Program meets on Tuesdays from 1 to 2 PM for 3 to 6-year-old children, and on the 2nd and 4th Sunday evenings of each month from 5-7 PM for 6 through 12 year old children. The children call it their Bible Study. All denominations, all children are welcome.

Come join us. We would love to have you. Questions? Call the Rev. Holly Cardone at (714) 879-8070.
